TEAMS
Church/Clergy Team
One of the most common
myths and misconceptions about organ and
tissue donation surrounds religious beliefs.
Numerous people believe that their religion
will not allow them to donate. However,
most religions in the United States, whether
they officially support organ and tissue
donation or support the individual choices
of their members, consider donation to be
an act of compassion and generosity.
The Church/Clergy team will
act as CDS churches/clergy liaisons.
Members will speak at churches, help with
church health fairs and events, and identify
new opportunities at underrepresented churches.
Church/clergy volunteers should be trained
CDS Friends For Life volunteers.
Members should encourage outreach and promotion
of donation and transplantation to all places
of worship.
Hospital Development
Team
The Hospital Development
volunteer workgroup is unique in its mission.
Working with CDS Hospital Development
and Communication staff, the workgroup will
develop projects designed to raise awareness
of the importance of organ and tissue donation
in hospitals. This may include public awareness
campaigns through displays in public spaces
at the hospital or more intimate contact
with hospital staff. Volunteer ideas and
suggestions are crucial to the success of
this group. The volunteers will pose ideas
and suggestions which can then be implemented
with the assistance of the Hospital Development
staff.
Drivers Education
Team
Schools and drivers
education classes are an important venue
for donation education. Statistics show
that teenagers are more likely today to
sign-up as donors than older citizens. However,
more than 50% of drivers in NC do not have
a heart on their license. Drivers
education is an opportunity to inform new
and young drivers what the heart on the
license means and to combat the common myths
and misconceptions that circulate in schools.
Speakers Bureau
Team
Speakers Bureau volunteers
provide presentations about organ and tissue
donation to public groups, such as civic
clubs, schools and religious organizations.
A combination of personal stories, facts
and statistics help show the real face of
donation and transplantation.
Health Fair Workgroup
Team
Health fair volunteer
set up displays at health fairs, hand out
promotional materials and answer questions
about organ and tissue donation.
Special Projects
Workgroup Team
This group will identify
and create a task plan for special events.
These may include volunteer recognition
events, April - Donate Life Month events
or arrange special public displays.
